For nearly eight years Grego consistently delivered a unique brand of reliable news and information daily to viewers of CW 39 Houston and CW 33 Dallas as the anchor and on-camera commentator of NewsFix; an alternative presentation to traditional local news.
Grego entertained legions of fans of rock and roll formatted radio stations for more than two decades prior as a high energy personality disc jockey. He received national acclaim for his groundbreaking Outlaw Radio nighttime show and morning co-hosting with members of The Stevens and Pruett show at 101 KLOL Houston.
Press includes: The Houston Chronicle, Free Press Houston, D Magazine, People Magazine and industry trades Radio Only, Radio and Records, and FMQB. Awarded best midday talk show host 1997 while at 610 WIOD Miami, Florida. Recognized in 2002 for outstanding community service by Dallas Mayor Laura Miller. Local news anchor of NewsFix from launch, Grego was the voice and face of the show responsible for reading and recording news scripts and promos in a pre-production workflow for newsrooms in Houston and Dallas. Voice tracks for writers and multi media journalists were then used in video news packages broadcast in five and nine pm newscasts. Additional duties consisted of meticulous fact checking of news copy and timely, precise narration. Grego's
On-camera Closing Comments segment at the end of each show written daily by him became popular for its topical, informative, sometimes advice driven, but always opinionated themes that engaged viewers and made them think. An alternative to traditional news, before cancellation by Tribune Media in September 2018, NewsFix had been helping viewers experience News in a new way since March 2011.
MORNING DRIVE RADIO HOST WBZX COLUMBUS, OHIO
August 2005 - July 2007
Host the Grego Show with sidekick Maurice 'Mo' Jovan on North American Broadcasting's 99.7 The Blitz Columbus, Ohio; a weekday, four hour comedy and music morning show. On air Grego would discuss lifestyle topics and share his real life personal experiences with listeners. Performing ad lib mixed with planned material, as the driver, it was Grego's job to keep the show focused and moving while managing a cast of players. Off-air preparation involved daily writing, researching, scheduling and the planning of every hour of the next show.
Developed and maintained client relationships with commercial sponsors: Meyers Jewelers, ProFlowers, Purina One, Harley Davidson Motorcycles, Columbus Car Audio and others. Grego and Mo performed live broadcasts, promotional and charity events at clubs, restaurants and taverns throughout the Columbus area. The show maintained a number one rating in key demos for twenty-two months.
MORNING DRIVE RADIO CO-HOST KEGL DALLAS, TEXAS
May 2002 - September 2004
Co-host The Grego and Brian Show on iHeartMedia Inc. KEGL The Eagle. A weekday comedy and rock music based morning drive show. The on air driver, Grego operated the control board, directed and participated in comedy bits, listener phone calls and kept show on schedule in order to play the required number of songs between prepared material. Off-air responsibilities included but were not limited to; planning, scheduling, and working with sales and promotions departments. Did numerous live broadcasts and public appearances. Grego and Brian participated in on-site events as ambassadors of the station. Increased ratings 25-54 persons until corporate station format change.
EVENINGS/MORNING DRIVE ON AIR PERSONALITY KLOL HOUSTON, TEXAS
April 1989 - November 2001
Creator and host Outlaw Radio at Rusk Corporation Rock 101 KLOL. Grego gained national recognition and praise for having reinvented nighttime personality rock radio giving way to imitation by radio stations across the country. The self-proclaimed Head Outlaw, Grego routinely engaged in extreme stunting and outrageous but endearing on air behavior to build a loyal following and a number one rating that other stations in the market found difficult to compete with. Outlaw Radio and Grego owned the seven to midnight day part in Houston, Texas from 1989 to 1991. After a stint as talk show host at 610 WIOD Miami, Florida. Grego returned to KLOL in 1998 to co-host The Grego, Pruett and the Boner morning show. Responsible for driver role duties, Grego ran the control board, participated in show planning, scheduling of guests, on-site live broadcasts, the reading of live commercials and personal appearances. Grego, Pruett and the Boner attained a number one rating in adults ages 25-54 in less than two years. Grego dedicated both air and personal time to help support The Stevens and Pruett Humane Ranch for Children and Animals. Grego also formed and was the singer for a rock and roll cover band used as a vehicle to promote radio show.
